Campus School's Mission
Campus School, in affiliation with The University of Memphis College of Education, is dedicated to the development and demonstration of exemplary programs from first through fifth grade. In fulfillment of its mission, the school has as its goals: 1) to provide best practices in elementary education instruction; 2) to model innovative educational designs; 3) to serve as a laboratory for educational redesign and research; 4) to offer clinical teaching experiences and mentoring for pre-service teachers. Our Vision...Our Creed Collaboration, Research, Excellence in Teaching, Enthusiasm for Learning, Diversity Campus School is a laboratory school which promotes excellence in teaching and enthusiasm for learning. Through integration of research into an innovative curriculum, the school can offer its best to aspiring teachers and to the urban community it serves. A diverse school population allows for valuable relationships and collaborations -- educational, cultural, social, and personal -- among the stakeholders who are involved. Teachers, students, and parents working together can maximize outcomes to the benefit of all involved. For students to function productively in society, education should provide opportunities for them to be curious and creative; to exercise initiative; to handle responsibilities; to test ideas; to establish opinions about controversial matters; and to develop aesthetic values. At Campus School we incorporate these opportunities into the school experience each day. Our students will meet high academic expectations because their learning is enhanced by best practices offered by dedicated and capable teachers. The teaching and learning atmosphere of the school will prepare students for their eventual place in the larger world. Campus School Library Mission Mission of the Library The mission of the library media program for Campus School is to enrich and support the school community. This entails providing a wide range of quality materials on all appropriate levels of difficulty, providing materials and services that will encourage growth in knowledge and encourage a love of reading. In order to accomplish this mission the librarians and classroom teachers will collaborate to teach students how to locate, select, evaluate, organize, and communicate information as it relates to Campus School's educational curriculum standards. SCS Library Mission Statement Each library in the Shelby County School system supports the instructional program of its school by providing materials to reinforce, enrich and extend classroom learning experiences. The librarian functions as a cooperative member of the teaching staff, a consultant on the use of materials and a teacher of those library skills which help students develop competency in the independent use of resources. Shelby County Schools libraries play a vital role in developing a love of reading and in encouraging good, lifelong reading habits. To this end, the librarian seeks to balance curriculum with recreational needs by selecting books of high appeal, as well as those which will stretch students’ minds and stimulate them to further inquiry. Shelby County Schools libraries establish an educational environment in which technology serves a major role, not only in the daily routine of a school library, but as an instructional part of the library program. Students have access to a variety of media resources to help them succeed in their learning and have opportunities to develop and foster computer skills to prepare for life’s experiences in a technological society. Shelby County Schools libraries are also committed to the ideal of free flow of information and ideas and to a cooperative relationship with each other, as well as with other libraries in their communities. |
